Chowki and mandap

Satyanarayan puja is usually done at home, in a flat, with family sitting through the katha. The decor has to be beautiful from where people sit, fit a room that is also a living room, and leave nothing behind.
Most of these happen in a two or three bedroom flat. The puja area is the hall, the guests are family and neighbours, and the katha means people sit on the floor for an hour or more.
So the setup is designed from floor level, where everyone will actually be looking from, and built with what a flat allows: no drilling, no ceiling rigging, nothing that marks a wall. The banana stems, the kalash, the flowers and the backdrop go up in the morning and come down the same evening, and the floor is left as it was found.
We also do these in society halls and karyalayas when the family is larger, where the constraint changes from space to the slot the hall gives you.
Every photo here is from an event our team planned and ran.
A home puja is judged by the morning after as much as the day.

Marigold and seasonal strings, torans at the door, and a backdrop that reads from floor level.
Floor seating with mattresses and bolsters, chairs for elders, and space the priest can move in.
Rangoli, a toran and a small welcome setup — the first thing every guest sees.
Arrangements for the prasad, the distribution and the leaf plates, if you would rather not handle it.
Out the same evening, with the flowers cleared and the floor left as we found it.
The usual one: a flat, family, the katha and prasad.
Larger gathering, with the hall’s own timing and rules.
New house, which is a smaller setup but on a tighter clock.
Often combined with griha pravesh, with its own ritual requirements.
Seasonal, and usually a longer installation.
Family function with a puja at the centre.
A different function entirely, but the same home-setup discipline.
Puja in the morning, a small gathering after it.
Home decor goes wrong in ways hall decor does not, and all of them are about the house.
Ask directly how the backdrop is supported. The honest answer is free-standing frames and weighted bases. Double-sided tape on a painted wall takes the paint with it, and in a rented flat that is the family’s deposit.
A setup designed for a standing photograph looks wrong to everyone sitting on the floor for the katha, which is almost everybody for most of the time. The height of the chowki, where the flowers hang and how high the backdrop starts should all be decided from a seated eye line.
Requirements vary by family and by priest — the direction the chowki faces, the samagri, how much space the havan needs if there is one. Get his list a few days ahead; it is the one thing nobody can improvise on the morning.
Banana stems and frames have to come up, and many Pune societies have rules about lift use, timings and deliveries. Tell us the floor, whether there is a lift and whether the society needs notice — it changes how early the crew arrives.
The thing families regret is a beautiful morning and a hall full of dead marigold at ten at night. Same-evening removal, flowers taken away rather than binned on the premises, floor cleaned. If it is not stated, ask.
See home function decoration, society clubhouse events and dohale jevan ideas.
That search returns whoever advertises hardest in Pune, not whoever runs the better event. It is a starting list, and the sorting is still yours to do.
Ask for an itemised scope, ask who is on site on the day, and ask what they have set up in Pune already. The answers sort a list of ten down to two. Our contact page has both numbers and WhatsApp, and you will get an itemised scope back rather than one figure.
Can't find yours? Call or WhatsApp — a planner answers.
The chowki and the mandap with its four banana stems, the kalash, fresh flowers and a backdrop, a toran and rangoli at the door, and floor seating for the katha with chairs for elders. Prasad arrangements and distribution can be added. Everything is removed the same evening.
Yes, and most of these are in flats. Nothing is drilled, taped to a painted wall or fixed to a ceiling — the backdrop stands on its own weighted frame. Tell us the floor, whether there is a lift and whether the society needs notice, because that decides when the crew arrives.
For a morning puja, usually three to four hours before, which for an early muhurat means starting at dawn. If the society restricts early entry or lift use we set up the evening before instead, leaving only the flowers for the morning.
We arrange the setup and can source the samagri from the list your priest gives. Most families bring their own priest, which is the right choice — what matters is getting his requirements a few days ahead, including which direction the chowki should face.
Yes. Everything comes out the same evening, the flowers are taken away rather than left in the society bins, and the floor is cleaned. This is the part families actually judge the job on, and it is in the scope rather than a favour.
It follows the size of the setup, how much fresh flower is used, whether seating and prasad are included, and the travel. A simple chowki and mandap in a flat and a full society-hall setup for a hundred are different jobs. Send a photograph of the room and the guest count.
Reviews and ads decide who appears first, not who runs the better event. Plan With YOLO has planned events since 2013 out of Pune and handles satyanarayan puja at home, satyanarayan puja in a society hall and griha pravesh puja in Pune. Ask to see work from the same kind of event, not a showreel of somebody else's.
Look for a team that has already worked in Pune, because venue access, power and society timings are local knowledge and cost you a day to learn. Our office is in Anand Nagar off Sinhagad Road and the crew travels to Pune with its own kit. Send the date, the venue and a rough guest count and you get a scope back the same day.
It moves with guest count, venue, the scale of décor and stage, and whether the date is in season. A wedding date in season and a weekday corporate meeting in Pune are not comparable, so a quoted range before anyone has seen the brief is not worth much. You will get an itemised scope for your own event, and every line on it can move.
