Model Colony is one of the few bungalow pockets left in central Pune. The functions are private and relatively small, held in gardens, and the one rule that matters is that the neighbours were here first.
Model Colony is an old, settled bungalow pocket in the middle of the city, next to the lake. It did not redevelop into towers, and the result is a quiet, leafy area where the events are private rather than public: a garden dinner, an engagement, a milestone birthday, a small reception, a house concert, an intimate wedding.
Scale is not the point here, and trying to make it the point is the usual mistake. These are functions for sixty to a hundred and fifty people where everything is seen closely — the table, the lighting, the flowers, whether the service is smooth. A build that would look good from thirty metres looks crude from three.
The constraint is the neighbours and the lanes. The roads are narrow and residential, there is nowhere for a vehicle to stand for hours, and sound carries across gardens on a still evening. We load in early, keep levels genuinely low, and plan the finish time rather than discover it when somebody complains.

A hundred-guest garden function is harder to do well than a six-hundred-guest banquet, because nothing is far enough away to hide.
Every joint, every cable tie, every edge of fabric will be seen from a chair. That changes materials and it changes finishing time. It is the main reason a small function is not simply a cheap version of a large one.
In a garden with mature trees the lighting is what people remember. Warm, layered, along the paths and up into the canopy, with nothing glaring at eye level. Spend here before spending on anything built.
At this size the evening is people talking. Music sits under that, placed in several small sources rather than one loud one, which also keeps it inside the garden instead of in the neighbour's bedroom.
These lanes cannot absorb forty cars. Where guests park, and whether somebody is there to direct them, is worth settling early — and it is the one thing that most often annoys the people living around you.
Not because of a rule alone, but because this is a neighbourhood where people know each other. An evening that ends when it said it would is the difference between a function the lane enjoyed and one it talks about for the wrong reason.

Quieter than almost anywhere else we work. These are narrow residential lanes with gardens either side and sound carries on a still evening. Loudspeakers are not permitted anywhere in Pune between ten at night and six in the morning except on exempted days, and we plan to finish well inside that.
That is worth settling before the invitation goes out, because the lanes cannot absorb forty cars. We will plan it with you and staff it on the day where the numbers justify it.
