The single most useful thing you can do is fix the date and the approximate guest count first. Those two numbers decide which venues are possible, and the venue decides almost everything else.
Pune's peak wedding season runs from November to February, with auspicious dates in between that every family wants. Good lawns and banquets for those dates are often booked six to nine months ahead. If you are flexible by a few weeks, or open to a weekday, you get far more choice. For dates outside the season, three to four months is usually enough to plan well.
Lawns suit large ceremonies and sangeets but need a weather plan. Banquet halls are safer for receptions and work in any season. Society clubhouses are practical for haldi and mehendi with close family. Resorts suit families who want everything in one place over two days. Check parking, generator backup, the latest time music is allowed and whether outside caterers or decorators are permitted, before you pay an advance.
Plan for the monsoon and the heat. From June to September, avoid open lawns unless there is a proper waterproof structure. In April and May, schedule outdoor functions for the evening and plan shade, fans and water counters for a daytime haldi.
