Katraj celebrates in booked spaces more than in living rooms. Katraj has grown in layers, and the layer your venue stands in tells us how to build. The older parts are independent houses, small buildings and wadis along internal streets that were never meant for a long vehicle, and the hall at the end of one of them usually has a single doorway, a staircase turn and no place for a truck to wait. The newer blocks along the wider roads have basements, lifts and podiums, and a different limit: a goods entry open only at fixed hours. Either way, the answer is the same. Material arrives in smaller loads, the final stretch is carried, and the mandap, backdrop and stage are made in pieces that clear a door frame, a turn and a ceiling fan. Tell us about a low gate or a tight landing on the first visit and it is designed in, not discovered on the morning.
This is the high side of the city, where the road rises south towards the ghat and loaded vehicles move slowly. A truck that starts late does not arrive a little late, it arrives an hour late, and in a session-booked hall that hour is the whole margin. So material comes in early morning or through the middle of the day, the crew stays on site instead of shuttling back and forth, and guest arrival is set after the worst of the evening flow. From June to September, add rain to that slope: the approach turns slippery, any open courtyard needs matting, and there has to be a covered path from wherever guests leave their vehicles.
Houses and halls stand shoulder to shoulder in the older streets, so sound is the one thing that gets a function complained about. Outdoor sound stops by ten at night. We point speakers inwards, keep the levels honest rather than loud, run the noisy build before the neighbourhood settles for the night, and finish the strike without banging doors at two in the morning. We change the vehicle, not the design. Material comes in smaller loads, or one vehicle unloads quickly and moves off, and the crew carries the last stretch. Structures are made in sections that pass a doorway, a staircase turn or a small lift. Tell us the tightest point on the route and we measure it during the site visit.
Yes. Housewarmings, satyanarayan pujas, naming ceremonies and thread ceremonies at home are regular work. The ritual corner is set first, the kitchen route and main door stay clear, and free-standing frames mean nothing is drilled. For an early ceremony we build the previous evening where the building allows it, otherwise very early the same morning.
Yes. We prepare the layout, stage position, sound timings, crew list and clean-up commitment your managing committee needs before approving, then build and run the evening. Seating is planned so elders and children are not at the back, sound stays inside permitted hours, and the ground is cleared and swept the same night.
Bring us in three to four months before a wedding or reception, and six to eight weeks before an engagement, puja or society programme. Book the hall itself as soon as the muhurat is fixed, because good session slots go early. Shorter notice is workable, though the choice of hall and of fresh flowers narrows.
