Mehendi setups on Katraj lawns and courtyards. Shade through the afternoon, warm lamps rigged before the light goes, and seating lifted off damp grass.
A mehendi on a Katraj lawn is the best version of this function and the one that needs the most planning, because it runs straight through the moment the daylight stops doing the work for you.
Up to about five the job is shade. After that it is light — enough of it, in the right colour, in the right place, or the artists simply slow down and the photographs go flat.
Then there is the ground itself. Grass is damp by evening, it holds insects, and a drape left loose on an open lawn will move all afternoon. All three are answered in the build.
Every photo here is from an event our team planned and ran.
An outdoor mehendi crosses three lighting conditions and has to work in all of them.
A canopy over the seating for the afternoon and warm lamps rigged for the evening, both in before guests arrive.
Matting and low platforms under the cushions, because an evening lawn is damp whatever the sky did.
Repellent run through the area well before people sit down, not sprayed around them once the biting starts.
Canopies and fabric weighted and tied off, so an open site does not spend the afternoon flapping.
Marigold, foliage and lanterns, chosen because they survive heat and still read once the light is artificial.
Matting up, lamps down, flower waste bagged, and the lawn left as we found it.
Zoned seating on matting across the grass, shaded by day and lit by night.
Enclosed and sheltered, which takes the wind problem away entirely.
Upstairs and open, with everything weighted rather than fixed.
On the plots further out, where lighting and power have to be brought with us.
Built under cover from the start, for the monsoon months or an unreliable sky.
A morning build reworked for the afternoon, with shade and seating added.
A lit, separate seat for the long bridal sitting, out of the main flow.
Hanging lanterns and a seat that works as the photograph after dark.
An indoor mehendi has one lighting condition. An outdoor one has three, and the function crosses all of them.
The sun is still on the lawn and the guests are the ones sitting in it. Shade goes over the seating and over the artists, not over the decoration — the decoration can take the light and photographs better for it.
The light drops faster than anyone expects and it drops while the function is at its busiest. Lamps have to be rigged, tested and aimed before they are needed, because nobody is going to run cable through a lawn full of seated guests.
Mehendi is dark paste on skin. Cool overhead light flattens it and a single bright lamp throws the artist’s own shadow across the hand. Warm light placed close and slightly to the side is what keeps the work moving and what makes the photographs look like anything.
Damp grass, insects and cushions do not go together. Matting and low platforms lift the seating, and the insect treatment runs through the area hours before people sit down rather than being sprayed over them. See the mehendi decoration page, the haldi setup in Katraj for the morning, and wedding planning in Katraj.
Nobody ranks planners on how their events went. What the results rank is visibility, which is why the shortlist matters more than the order it arrives in.
A team that has worked Katraj knows the access, the power and the society timings. Ask for that, ask for the breakdown, and ask who runs the day. Our contact page has both numbers and WhatsApp, and you will get an itemised scope back rather than one figure.

Warm lamps placed close to each artist and set slightly to the side, so nobody works in their own shadow, with softer ambient light over the seating zones. It is rigged, aimed and tested before the guests arrive, because cable cannot be run through a lawn full of people.
Treatment goes through the area a few hours before the function, not during it, and the seating is lifted off the grass on matting which is where most of the biting comes from. We will also keep the warm lamps away from the seating edges, because they pull insects straight to them.
They would, which is why they do not sit on grass. Matting and low platforms go down first and the seating sits on that. It also stops the whole arrangement sinking in once fifty people have walked across it.
Canopies and drapes are weighted and tied off as standard, so wind is a planned-for condition rather than a surprise. For rain, through the monsoon we build under cover from the start; out of season we will tell you the day before what can be moved and what cannot.
Yes, and it is the cheaper way to do it. The morning build is reworked in the afternoon — shade added, seating expanded, lighting rigged — rather than struck and rebuilt. It shows as one setup with a changeover line rather than two setups.
Lighting and seating carry the cost outdoors, and both are higher than they would be in a hall because everything has to be brought, rigged and weighted. Send the size of the lawn, the guest count and the finish time and you will see those as separate lines.
Reviews and ads decide who appears first, not who runs the better event. Plan With YOLO has planned events since 2013 out of Pune and handles lawn mehendi, courtyard mehendi and terrace mehendi in Katraj. The same crew covers Pune. Ask what happens to the price when a number moves; a single figure tells you nothing.
Look for a team that has already worked in Katraj, because venue access, power and society timings are local knowledge and cost you a day to learn. Our office is in Anand Nagar off Sinhagad Road and the crew travels to Katraj with its own kit. Send the date, the venue and a rough guest count and you get a scope back the same day.
There is no standard rate — the cost follows the guest count, the venue, how much décor and stage you want, and the date. A wedding date in season and a weekday corporate meeting in Katraj are not comparable, so a quoted range before anyone has seen the brief is not worth much. You will get an itemised scope for your own event, and every line on it can move.
