Most mehendi functions go wrong in the same way: too few artists for the guest list, so a queue forms at four and is still there at nine. This is the arithmetic, the lead times, and what to ask before you book.
That single number settles most of the argument. Sixty guests who all want mehendi, in a function running four hours, needs three artists working steadily — not one, and not the two somebody will suggest to save money.
Bridal mehendi is a separate booking entirely. Full hands and feet for a bride is three to five hours of one artist's time, and that artist does nothing else while it happens. Counting her in the guest arithmetic is the commonest planning mistake we see.
We arrange artists as part of a mehendi setup or on their own. If you already have an artist your family uses, keep her — tell us how many are coming and we will design the seating and the light around them instead.
One artist for the bride, three to five hours, nothing else on her list that day.
A dedicated bridal artist and a separate team for everybody else, which is the arrangement that actually works.
For a function where the bride's mehendi is being done elsewhere or on another day.
Artists at two addresses on the same day, or the groom's side the day before.
Booked alongside the seating, backdrop and lighting, so the artists' corner is planned rather than left over.
You have the venue and the decor; we send the right number of artists and nothing else.
A stall at an office Diwali or a society event, priced per hour rather than per guest.
When an artist cancels on the week of. Subject to who is free, and we will say so honestly.
Priced by hands and by design, not by the hour — which is why the guest count matters more than the length of the function.
Worked out from your guest list and how long the function runs, and told to you plainly even when the answer is more than you hoped.
Full hands and feet, three to five hours, with one artist who does nothing else that day.
Simple to medium designs for everyone else, which is where the queue either moves or does not.
Arabic, Rajasthani, minimal, full traditional. Agreed before the day, because an artist cannot switch style mid-queue.
The artists' corner sheeted, somewhere for cones and tissues to go, and your floor not paying for the afternoon.
A warm lamp over each artist, because the paste is dark on a dark hand and a ceiling tube makes her shadow her own work.
Every photo here is from an event our team planned and ran.
Almost every unhappy mehendi function has the same cause, and it is not the artist's skill.
An artist completes roughly five to six pairs of hands an hour for simple guest designs, and fewer as the designs get heavier. Divide your guest list by that. Forty guests over four hours is two artists. Eighty is four. If the number you get feels high, the honest options are fewer artists and a shorter guest list for mehendi, or more artists — not the same artists working faster, which only produces worse work.
Bridal mehendi is full hands and feet and often arms and legs, and it takes three to five hours of one artist's undivided time. If you book three artists for sixty guests and expect one of them to do the bride as well, you have really booked two artists for sixty guests.
Arabic is quicker and reads boldly from a distance. Rajasthani and full traditional are finer and much slower. Minimal is fastest of all and photographs beautifully on younger guests. An artist cannot change style halfway through a queue without the earlier guests noticing, so the decision belongs in the booking.
Good artists in Pune are gone for the main wedding months well before the families who want them start looking. For a peak-season date, two to three months is comfortable. For an off-season weekday, a few weeks. Last-minute is possible and it narrows who is available, which we will tell you rather than quietly sending whoever is free.
Mehendi is priced by hands and by design, not by the hour, which is why “how much for four hours” is a question with no answer. Ask instead: how many guests is this quote for, what happens if more turn up, is the bride included, and does it cover both hands and feet. Our scope answers all four in writing before you agree to anything.
This is the cheapest improvement available and almost nobody buys it. Dark paste on a dark hand, under a white ceiling tube, with the artist's own head between the lamp and the work — that is why the queue slows after sunset. A warm lamp beside each artist speeds up an evening more than hiring another artist does. The mehendi decoration page covers the seating and the backdrop, and wedding planning in Pune the rest of the week.

Two to three. One artist does roughly five to six pairs of hands an hour for simple guest designs, so fifty guests over a four-hour function is about three artists if everyone wants mehendi, and two if only half of them do. The bride is counted separately and does not come out of that number.
Three to five hours for full hands and feet, longer if the design goes up the arms and legs. It is one artist working on one person for that whole time, which is why it is booked as its own job rather than squeezed into the guest queue.
It is priced by hands and by design rather than by the hour, so the guest count and the style move it far more than the length of the function. Bridal is a separate figure from guest mehendi. Send the date, the guest count and whether you want Arabic, minimal or full traditional and you will get it itemised — including what happens if more guests turn up than expected.
Yes. Plenty of families already have their decor sorted, or are doing the function at home with no setup at all, and only need the right number of artists. Tell us the venue and the guest count and that is the whole booking.
Yes, and keep her — a family artist who knows the bride is worth more than any substitute. Tell us how many artists are coming and we will build the seating, the shade and the lighting around them, which is usually the part nobody has planned.
Arabic uses bolder, more open patterns with a lot of negative space, so it goes on faster and reads well in photographs from a distance. Rajasthani is dense and fine, with figures and detailed fill, and takes considerably longer per hand. Most functions end up with Arabic or minimal for guests and traditional for the bride.
Two to three months for a peak wedding-season date, because the artists worth having are booked long before most families start looking. A few weeks is usually enough off-season or on a weekday. Last minute is sometimes possible and it limits who is free — we will tell you that rather than send whoever is available and hope.
Yes — across PCMC, the townships along the Nagar and Solapur roads, and to destination weddings in Lonavala, Mahabaleshwar and Alibaug. Anything beyond the city carries travel as its own line in the scope so you can see what the distance costs.
