Lonavala sits close enough that both sides of the family can drive up the same morning, which is exactly why the plan has to hold them there. We handle the property, the rooms, the shuttles and every function from arrival to check-out.

Lonavala works for a Pune wedding because of the road. Guests leave after breakfast and are checking in before lunch, and the Mumbai side of the family drives roughly the same distance from the other direction. Nobody books flights, nobody loses a day, and the guest list can stay as long as your room count allows.
That short drive is also the thing that quietly breaks a Lonavala wedding. When a resort is two hours away, a good number of guests plan to come up for the function and drive back the same night. You end up with a reception that empties early and a room block you have already paid for. So we build the schedule to give people a reason to stay: an arrival dinner, a slow morning, and functions that sit close enough together that going home in between makes no sense.
The rest is hill work. Lawns need anchoring and drainage, evenings go dark and cold faster than anyone expects, and the monsoon months want a real covered structure rather than an umbrella at the gate. We plan, set up and run all of it, with one coordinator on site from the first arrival to the last check-out.
One team plans the stay and the wedding together, so nothing sits between the two.
Hill resorts, lawn properties and farm stays matched to your guest count, room inventory and the functions you need space for.
Room blocks held by family group, early check-in for the bride's side, and a help desk in the lobby.
Pick-up points in the city, staggered departure times and a named contact on every coach so nobody waits at the gate.
Mandap, haldi, sangeet and reception setups designed for open grass, hill wind and how early the light goes.
A covered alternative for every outdoor function, sized and agreed with the property before the invites go out.
A printed two-day schedule for the family, the vendors and the venue, run by coordinators who arrive first.
Every photo here is from an event our team planned and ran.
We start with how many people will stay overnight, because room inventory rules out more Lonavala properties than budget does.

You getA guest travel and room sheet
Our coordinators reach before the guests, run every function to the sheet, then manage check-outs and the drive back.
You getTwo days you spend with your family
Book the rooms before you fall in love with the lawn. Almost every Lonavala wedding is decided by how many beds the property has, because the drive is short enough that guests will otherwise solve the problem themselves by going home, and then half your wedding is on the expressway late at night.
Lonavala is roughly two hours from Pune and about the same from Mumbai, which is the whole reason families pick it. Both sides drive, nobody flies, and elders travel in a car with their own luggage. The trade-off is that the trip never quite feels like a trip. Say clearly on the save-the-date that this is a two-day wedding, not a function with a drive attached. Put the arrival dinner early enough that leaving and coming back looks silly. And when you hold the room block, hold it by family group rather than by headcount, so the uncles who share a car also share a floor.
Run shuttles even if everyone says they are driving. A coach from a fixed point in the city, leaving at a fixed time, takes twenty cars off the property gate and gives you one phone number to chase instead of thirty. Keep a second vehicle on site all day for the errands nobody planned: the forgotten kurta, the medical shop, the cousin arriving on a late train.
Grass on a slope is not a floor. Level it or cover it, with matting or a raised platform under the mandap and under any seating for elders, because heels, walking sticks and damp turf are a bad combination. Anchor every frame properly. Lonavala gets steady evening wind coming off the valley, and a tall floral backdrop that was fine in the afternoon will lean by dinner. Ask which side the wind comes from on that particular lawn. The staff who work there every day will tell you.
Light it as though there is no ambient light, because there is none. Once the sun drops behind the ridge, a hill lawn goes properly dark in about twenty minutes. Warm uplights along the perimeter, path lighting from the room blocks to the function area, and something on the steps. Then check the power. Most resorts have a generator sized for the kitchen and the rooms, not for a production rig plus a kitchen plus a full house. Ask what spare load is actually available, get the answer in writing, and plan to bring a separate set for sound and lighting if the number is thin.
Two nights is the sweet spot here. One night turns into a long day with a wedding inside it, and three nights is usually more than a two-hour drive can justify. This is the shape most Lonavala weddings settle into.
| When | What happens | Where it should sit |
|---|---|---|
| Day 1, afternoon | Arrivals and check-in | Lobby help desk, rooms allotted by family, welcome kits already inside |
| Day 1, evening | Welcome dinner | Covered deck or the smaller lawn, music low, an early finish |
| Day 2, morning | Haldi | Open grass with floor cover, shade for elders, wash-up point nearby |
| Day 2, midday | Mehendi | Shaded seating beside the haldi lawn so nobody changes venue twice |
| Day 2, evening | Sangeet | Poolside or banquet, the one function that needs the full rig |
| Day 3, morning | Baraat and pheras | Main lawn, built overnight, with the banquet held as cover |
| Day 3, evening | Reception | Banquet or lit lawn, finishing inside the outdoor sound cut-off |
Lonavala between June and September is the most beautiful it ever looks and the hardest place to run a function. Expect rain that arrives sideways, lawns that hold water for a day afterwards, and the ghat section slowing to a crawl on a Friday evening. If you want that green, budget for a proper covered structure with side walls and a raised floor, not a canopy over the stage and hope. October and November are the easy months: clear, mild, still green. December and January give you the finest light and the worst guest planning, because people dress for the city and then sit outdoors on a hill at night, so keep shawls at the entrance and heaters near the elders. March to May is warm by day and pleasant after dark, so push ceremonies earlier or later and leave the middle of the day free.
If you are still choosing between the hills, the coast and the vineyards, start with our destination wedding planner page. For mandap structures built to stand on grass, see our mandap decorators in Pune, and keep the wedding planning checklist open while you book. A sangeet on a hill needs its own sound plan, which the sangeet night planning guide covers.

Lonavala is about a two-hour drive from Pune, which is why families with relatives in both cities choose it. Guests can leave after breakfast and be checked in before lunch. Plan for the ghat section to slow down on Friday evenings and long weekends, and stagger arrival times so the front desk is not handling everybody at once.
A monsoon wedding in Lonavala is possible, but only with a proper covered structure rather than a canopy. Between June and September the hills are at their greenest and the rain arrives sideways, lawns hold water for a day afterwards and the drive slows down. If you want that green, budget for side walls, a raised floor and a lit walkway between blocks.
Two nights suits Lonavala best. One night turns into a long day with a wedding inside it, and three nights is more than a two-hour drive usually justifies. A common shape is an arrival dinner, a morning haldi and mehendi, a sangeet that night, then the baraat, pheras and reception on the last day.
Many will try to drive back, and that is the main thing to plan against. Say on the save-the-date that this is a two-day wedding, put an early welcome dinner on the first evening, and keep functions close enough together that leaving in between makes no sense. Hold rooms by family group rather than by headcount.
Cost in Lonavala is driven by the number of rooms and nights, the season, your guest count and how much of the wedding sits outdoors. Peak winter dates and full-property bookings sit well above a weekday in October. Covered structures, extra power and transport are real lines. Send your guest list and dates for an itemised estimate.
Outdoor sound in Lonavala usually stops by late evening, and several properties set an earlier limit of their own because homes and other resorts sit close by. Confirm the exact time in writing before you book the sangeet, and plan the last performance to finish inside it, with the party moving indoors afterwards.
Check the room count and how many are twin-share, spare generator load, truck access to the lawn, setup hours and overnight access, and the covered backup space with its real capacity. Ask about open-flame rules for the havan, and ask which side the evening wind comes from. Staff who work that lawn daily will know.
Yes. We plan, set up and run weddings outside the city, and Lonavala is a short enough run that loads leave early in the morning and are on the lawn by midday. Our coordinators stay on the property from before the first guest arrives until the last check-out, so the family is never chasing a vendor.
