We decorate baby showers as parties: a backdrop worth photographing, a dessert and cake table, a gift corner and a games spot. Homes, party rooms, cafés and small halls, finished before the first guest arrives.
A baby shower is a party first. The wall everybody photographs against, the dessert table, the gift corner and the spot where games happen are the four places guests actually use, so those four are what we design and size. The rest is styling around them.
Who is hosting changes the brief completely. When friends or colleagues plan it, the afternoon runs on games, snacks and a surprise entry, and the guest of honour is told almost nothing in advance. When a sister or a sister-in-law plans it, the invitation grows, more of the family comes and the food counter matters more than the props. Tell us which one you are, and the layout shifts to match.
Showers here usually run two or three hours in the afternoon, at home, in a society party room, or in a booked corner of a café. We work from photographs of the room, dress one wall properly instead of spreading thinly over three, and carry it all away afterwards. Settle who is hosting before anything else. A shower thrown by friends and a shower thrown by the family are two different afternoons, and every décor choice follows from which one you are planning.
Nearly every shower follows the same shape, and knowing it tells you where to put things. Guests arrive and drift straight towards the food, which is why the dessert table must never sit behind the door. Then comes the welcome and the first round of photographs, so the backdrop needs standing room for eight people, not two. Games follow and want a clear middle of the room with chairs pushed back. Then the cake, then presents, then a slower half hour of talking. Lay the room out in that order and nothing needs shifting once guests are in.
Games are what guests remember and they need very little: printed sheets, a pen on every table, a handful of props and small prizes kept ready in a basket. Guess-the-date and advice-card games work with any group. Anything that keeps people standing for long does not. Leave one table free for the sheets so they are not fighting with plates, and put a wishes jar near the gift corner to give people something to do while others play.
Settle one thing early. Gender-reveal themes are best left out, since prenatal sex determination is illegal in India, and neutral pastels, greens and whites photograph better anyway.
At home the afternoon feels warmer and costs less, but you are working with one good wall, a lift and a kitchen that is also feeding everyone. A society party room buys you a proper entry, floor for games and somewhere to stand the food counter, though setup hours are usually counted inside your booking. A café is the kindest on the host and the strictest on décor, so ask what may be fixed to the walls before falling for a design.

A good dessert table has height, not just spread. Use a cloth to the floor, stands at three levels, the cake at the tallest point, and smaller sweets, cupcakes and a drink jar filling in around it. Leave one end clear for serving and cutting. A small sign or lettering behind it finishes the photographs without adding clutter.
Games that people can play sitting down work best. Guess-the-date, advice cards, name suggestions, a memory round and simple guessing games need only printed sheets, pens and a few props. Keep prizes small and ready in a basket, and leave one table free for the sheets so they are not competing with plates and glasses.
